Though he does not need to carry autograph cards, he is still one of the most powerful men in German soccer. That’s how Süddeutsche Zeitung, a leading Germany daily newspaper, describes Christian Seifert, CEO of Deutsche Fußball Liga, the German soccer league.

“Especially when he’s negotiating a new television rights contract, you have a chance to admire his acumen,” wrote the newspaper in a portrait of the soccer manager published on 12 April 2016.

Seifert prefers to represent the league’s interests out of the limelight, says Phillip Selldorf, a journalist for Süddeutsche Zeitung. Every few years, when he is “negotiating a new, even more grandiose, TV contract for the professional clubs, the public has an opportunity to admire his readiness of mind, his acumen and his profound knowledge of the complex subject matter”.
